Why did I join AzAAP?

"The AzAAP is my voice for children's advocacy in Arizona. This is my organization to foster local children's issues in difference to the national AAP. It is the only organization where I can multiply my political voice, get feedback and help on practice issues and help me cope with the business of medicine."

- Tom Barela, MD, FAAP

"The AAP nationally, and the AzAAP at the state level, are the ready-made political tools allowing us to wrestle with the snake. I thank everyone who supported me for the Board position, and much more importantly, encourage all child advocates – Family Practitioner, IM-Peds provider, or Pediatrician, whether generalist or specialist - to join in the wrestling effort. Even if you become “just” an AzAAP member, your membership and financial support will be welcome and significant. And if you have the desire to wrestle more actively in the process, there are plenty of opportunities to pursue, and the AzAAP will be happy to match your interests with new or ongoing initiatives. "

- Michael McQueen, MD, MBA, FAAP

"I have been involved with the AzAAP in the past, as C.A.T.C.H. Facilitator and Medical Home Project co-chair. I joined the AzAAP chapter again as Secretary because I truly feel that one can make a difference in children’s healthcare in Arizona. I have been very fortunate in my private practice and feel that the AzAAP is the perfect avenue for me to give back to my community. What better way for me to volunteer my time than through my craft? Being a part of AzAAP has enabled me to meet smart, interesting, energetic professionals that fuel my desire to better the practice of Pediatrics in Arizona."

- Arturo Gonzalez, MD, FAAP

"What I have learned as a member of the AzAAP is that it not only helps in developing formats and changing policies to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of Arizona children, but it also works to unite fellow pediatricians in Arizona. With all the changes in the health care field today, this is why I truly feel it is important that each and every Arizona Pediatrician should join and participate in the Arizona AAP chapter."

- Amy Shoptaugh, MD, FAAP
