AzAAP Annual Chapter Meeting Luncheon
This year's AzAAP Annual Chapter Meeting Luncheon was held June 20, 2008 at the Sedona Hilton Resort and Spa. It was a wonderful opportunity for chapter members from across the state to gather with their peers and learn about the state of the chapter.
Presentations were made from AAP AAP District VIII vice chair, Lance Chilton, MD and the chapter president, Keith Dveirin, MD. Members learned about the value of being an AAP member, the state of the chapter and also received progress reports about the changing chapter by laws, Pediatric Council and First Things First Task Force.
Three awards are presented each year at the AzAAP Annual Chapter Meeting Luncheon:
- The Service Award is presented to a 20 year chapter member who continues to do exceptional work on behalf of the chapter. This year, this award was presented to Glenn Waterkotte, MD.
- The Achievement Award is presented to a chapter member who goes above and beyond their call of duty that year. This year, the award was presented to Jeff Couchman, MD for creating, performing and analyzing an AZ-specific survey on true costs of vaccine acquisition and administration. The award was also presented to Barb Smith, MD for her efforts in launching a chapter task force dedicated to First Things First - now the chapter's largest group.
- The Partnership Award is presented to an outside government agency or person dedicated to child advocacy whose work reflects the mission and goals of the AzAAP. This year, this was awarded to The Southwest Autism Research and Resorce Center (SARRC) for continuous efforts on behalf of Autistic children and extensive training of physicians on screening and treatment of children with ASDs.
Special thanks this year to WYETH who will provide partial support for this year's annual luncheon and meeting.
