The Arizona AAP is starting a state-wide project to educate Arizona physicians about proper diagnosis, care and billing for ADHD evaluations
A group of pediatricians and developmental specialists have identified some areas of concern. Our project goals include improving ADHD evaluations in Arizona, identifying how to monitor and measure improvements in care for ADHD patients across the state and responding to Arizona legislators concerns regarding ADHD and meds. The committee plans to educate legislators that ADHD is a real disorder. We also plan to provide CME for physicians across the state who wish to improve their evaluations, educate physicians regarding medication and to educate physicians on how to get paid for what they do. McNeil Pharmaceuticals is providing ADHD toolkits for participating practices.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) developed evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These recommendations emphasize that ADHD is a chronic condition that is best addressed with a multidisciplinary, multimodal treatment approach.
This toolkit contains practical tools to help incorporate the new AAP guidelines into office practice, including
- Symptom checklists for use by parents and teachers
- Guidance on selecting appropriate therapy
- Forms to acquire teacher reports
- Examples of written management plans to help strengthen family skills
- Strategies to assist the clinician in monitoring the child
