Member takes Action!
One of our newer members, Dr. Lou Iorio of Mesa, has taken it upon himself to create change in the world of vaccine reimbursement. On the right hand side of this screen you will see links to letters Dr. Iorio has written to Pharma Companies.
His passion for practice management and advocating for pediatricians right to operate their businesses effectively is evident in these letters. We hope it inspires more pediatric healthcare providers to take a stand!
Dr. Iorio is also active on the AzAAP Pediatric Council.
The purpose of placing these letters on our website is to educate Pediatric Healthcare Providers and Practice Managers about the different modes to create change. Letter-writing is an effective method of educating Payers and Pharmaceutical companies about the position pediatric offices are in as a result of inadequate reimbursement.
Wyeth announces Price Increase in Prevnar Vaccine
AAP immunization staff were informed by Wyeth that they will be implementing a price increase for Prevnar, effective August 1, 2007.
The price increase was anticipated, but Wyeth has agreed to extend its old prices for 60 days to customers with standing orders (over 90% of their business). This is a direct result of the work done by Private Payer Advocacy, the Task Force on Immunization, and follow-up by Dr Richard Lander.
Wyeth has provided a more detailed explanation of the increase and the extension of the old prices in the letter found on the right hand side of this screen. If Wyeth receives positive feedback, they are open to continuing the 60-day plan in the future.
For any questions on immunizations, please contact Elizabeth Sobczyk at esobczyk@aap.org.
If you find that in due time, certain insurance companies are not reimbursing effectively for the Prevnar increase please let your Wyeth representative know so that the appropriate people can be notified.
